{"id":268,"date":"2023-11-30T13:11:06","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T13:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marri-uk.org\/?page_id=268"},"modified":"2024-09-17T17:01:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T17:01:51","slug":"associate-membership","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marri-uk.org\/index.php\/become-a-member\/join-marri-uk\/associate-membership\/","title":{"rendered":"Associate Membership"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MarRI-UK Associate Membership&nbsp;is available for Research and Innovation Organisations (RIOs) in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>RIO Definition<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MarRI-UK&#8217;s definition of RIO follows the Government definition, i.e. &#8220;non-profit organisations that perform research and innovation support as their main activity, whose existence depends on significant degree of public funding, and whose work serves some public policy purpose.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RIOs are focussed more on innovation at higher TRLs than Universities and provide support to industrial innovation in a number of ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scientific support to industry knowledge bases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Problem solving and advice for commercial firms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketed innovation-relevant knowledge services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business-relevant information \u2018packages\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specific product and process development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creation of spin-out companies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>User-initiated innovations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be MarRI-UK Associate Membership, an ROI&nbsp;should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>be a not for profit or a charitable organisation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>conduct funded research in the maritime sector that is within the scope of the DfT Maritime 2050 Strategy and MarRI-UK,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be a recognised centre for research and innovation in the maritime sector or an adjacent sector,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have access to, or operate, infrastructure and facilities which may be applied to the maritime sector,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have demonstrated the ability to work with (and for) UK industry, including established networks within the maritime sector,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have a National \/ International Reputation, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have an established industrial and academic network.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Benefit<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Associate members will support the development of MarRI-UK&#8217;s research agenda.
