Welcome to the first MarRI-UK newsletter of 2023, keeping you up to date with all the latest developments within MarRI-UK. These are exciting times for the UK Maritime Sector, from AUKUS to the Zero Emission Vessel and Infrastructure (ZEVI) Competition, it is clear that there is new impetus across the sector to innovate and improve. While MarRI-UK can take some credit for helping to drive this innovation agenda at the government level, we do not plan to sit still but instead, alongside our members, continue to unlock the UK maritime sector\u2019s innovation potential.2023 will be an exciting year for MarRI-UK, our membership programme is taking shape, and we have a number of important initiatives that we will be announcing soon, so watch this space. Jill Rymer Appointed as new MarRI-UK Programme Manager<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

MarRI-UK is proud to announce that Jill Rymer has joined us as a new Programme Manager as of the 1st of April 2023. Jill joins us from EnergyREV Consortium where she was Programme Manager. MarRI-UK Director, John Hudson on Jill’s Appointment: “I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Jill Rymer to the position of Programme Manager within MarRI-UK. MarRI-UK recieved \u00a3224,000 grant from National Shipbuilding Office<\/strong><\/p>\n

MarRI-UK is excited to announce that we have received a \u00a3224,000 grant from the National Shipbuilding Office to embark on a study of the maritime sector. The aim of this five month project shall be to gain enhanced insight into current UK shipbuilding research expertise and maximise opportunities for UK shipbuilding so as to disrupt the market in such a way that it both improves productivity and increases UK competitiveness.<\/p>\n

This project will be run by MarRI-UK and will be carried out by seven maritime-leading UK universities.<\/p>\n

MarRI-UK Funding Call Projects<\/strong>

\nOver the last few years MarRI-UK has managed 23 projects over three separate funding calls. Many of these projects have now been completed and the results can be found on the MarRI-UK Website.\u00a0 A few recently completed projects are: Fuel Cell-Battery Hybrid Ship <\/a>by Babcock, Argus by Autonomous Devices<\/a> and Maritime Cyber Risk Assessment Tooling <\/a>by University of Plymouth.To find out more about all our projects: https:\/\/www.marri-uk.org\/projects-funded\/completed-projects-overview<\/a>Furthermore, in a bid to promote the dissemination of the projects, their final output reports can also be found on the MarRI-UK website. On the 12th of October 2022, MarRI-UK held the online event Innovation through Maritime Research and Innovation UK as part of Maritime UK Week. With a Key Note speech by Petra Wilkinson, Director of Maritime, Department for Transport, and numerous exciting seminars updating attendees on the last maritime innovations it was a highly successful event.<\/p>\n
