8th UK Marine Technology Postgraduate Conference (MTPC)

The 8th MTPC will be held at University of Liverpool on 17-18 June 2025.

Postgraduate Research is a key powerhouse delivering research in universities. The aim of the MTPC is to bring together postgraduate students and early career researchers in marine technology to share and discuss their current research in a casual environment. It also provides up-to-the-moment insight for industry attendees into current live research themes, demonstrates facilities and other research capabilities at universities, and reveals wider research networks, exemplifying industry and research sponsorship relationships.

The conference is open to all interested undergraduates, postgraduates, academics and industrials. It will be an opportunity to learn about the research currently being undertaken by postgraduates in marine technology, and direct access to potential future employees. In addition, it provides networking and collaboration opportunities to initiate and develop timely research.

Who should attend

The following groups will benefit from attending the conference:

  • Postgraduate students conducting research in marine and maritime fields, seeking to deepen their knowledge and network with experts
  • Researchers and academics interested in the latest advancement and trends in marine technology and maritime studies.
  • Industry professionals eager to explore cutting-edge research and innovation solutions in marine technology, and to connect with leading researchers
  • Government and regulatory bodies looking to understand how the latest research developments and inform and shape future regulations and policies.

Presentation and Engagement Options

Three options are available for students to participate in the conference:

  • Research Presentations: Your presentation slot will last no longer than 20 minutes which will be strictly enforced by the conference chairs to ensure the punctual running of the conference. It is recommended that you aim to present for 15 minutes leaving 5 minutes for audience questions and feedback. The presentation will be given in a standard university lecture theatre with an overhead projector, screen and audio with wifi coverage via eduroam (if you wish to connect for the purposes of your presentation please ensure you know how to login to your account whilst away from your host university campus).
  • Posters: You will need to print your poster and bring it to the conference. Your poster will be displayed in the designated poster area during the conference.

Past successful stories

Dr Yuanchang Liu, Associate Processor and Chair of Marine Research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London

“Attending the MTPC conference has been one of the major milestones in my PhD journey. As a unique event that gathered nearly all the students, academics, and industry professionals working in marine engineering in the UK, it provided an excellent platform for academic communication. I had the opportunity to present my research, interact with colleagues, and, most importantly, have my work recognised and appreciated. It was also a relaxing networking event where everyone could easily exchange research backgrounds and ideas, which is especially important for junior researchers. Attending the MTPC conference has greatly inspired me and encouraged me to fulfil my academic ambitions.”
