Electric Motor Development and Testing

Description:

The Dynamometer facility significantly mitigates costs and risks, providing industry partners with the assurance and confidence to develop clean vehicles and vessels. The Dyno facility can be used for testing electric motors up to 1 MW. We can recreate real world conditions such as replay torque demands that have been recorded from vessels.

We are able to log a multitude of inputs and outputs to the motor such as coolant temperature and current and voltage demand.

We can simulate fault conditions to see if scenarios such as no coolant and its effect on the motor.

We can test motors against their claimed power from the manufacturer.

The principal is just a large resistive force that is speed controllable. The motor under test will then try and change this speed based on the user set torque demands allowing to motors to be tested at different speeds and torques.

List Of Facilities:
Dynamometer Facility The Centre for Future Clean Mobility (CFCM) has successfully constructed the pioneering Dynamometer facility, a cutting-edge zero emissions testing facility that is the first of its kind in the UK. This facility enables the team to design and evaluate powertrain systems without the necessity of constructing a complete vehicle. By conducting tests in the laboratory, the CFCM team and industry partners gain valuable insights into the power requirements and performance capabilities of clean powertrains in various vehicles and vessels.
