Welcome to the MarRI-UK weekly roundup!
This week highlights a clear shift: maritime is now firmly a national security priority for the UK, spanning shipbuilding, energy, and AI. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz underline how global trade routes can be both monetised and weaponised. At the same time, offshore wind, nuclear (SMRs), and port infrastructure are converging into integrated energy systems, with infrastructure emerging as the key constraint. Meanwhile, defence is accelerating toward autonomy. The strategic focus across academia, policy, and industry is increasingly on resilience, integration, and sovereign capability.
