We’re delighted to announce that Patrick Carnie has joined MarRI-UK as Interim Director during Sarah-Louise Keegan’s maternity leave. Patrick will help shape the strategic direction of MarRI-UK building on the UKMaritime Technology Roadmap.
Patrick brings more than 40 years of maritime experience spanning naval architecture, shipbuilding, innovation, business development and strategic leadership. Throughout his career, he has been driven by a clear purpose: creating sustainable, high-value jobs in the maritime sector. Many across the UK maritime community will already know Patrick for his work bringing together industry, academia and government. This has included establishing Maritime Research & Innovation UK (MarRI-UK) and the Scottish Maritime Cluster, where he continues to serve as a Non-Executive Director. He also contributed to the UK’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, supported innovation programmes as an assessor for Innovate UK and defence projects, and played a leading role in the Arrol Gibb Innovation Campus at Rosyth.
Formerly a Naval Architecture graduate from the University of Strathclyde and Chartered Engineer, Patrick’s career has included roles with BAE Systems, the UK Ministry of Defence, Canadian Department of National Defence, QinetiQ and Babcock International Group, where he served as Strategy Director and provided thought leadership in strategy, acquisition, sustainability and organisational change. Patrick is an Honorary member of the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights in London and a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) where he represents maritime interests on the IoD Scotland Policy committee.
Sarah Kenny, the Chair of MarRI-UK Strategy Board said:
