UK Maritime Political Update

  • (09/01) DBT announced that Lord Lancaster of Kimbolton had been reappointed as the Government’s Defence and Security Advocate, with his role being ‘to drive the UK’s defence and security export success until March 2026.’ He will ‘report directly to the Business and Trade Secretary and will continue his programme of visits both overseas and at home to promote UK defence and security exports.’
  • (07/01) DBT announced the launch of a Steel Council
  • (07/01) The Industry Minister issued a written statement on the next steps for the Steel Strategy
  • (06/01) MOD announced that the JEF has ‘activated an advanced UK-led reaction system to track potential threats to undersea infrastructure and monitor the Russian shadow fleet’ 
  • (13/12) DESNZ announced ambitious reforms to the country’s energy system
  • (12/12) DBT announced that the Business Secretary and MinDPI had hosted a defence industry CEO roundtable
  • (12/12) NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said it is time to “shift to a wartime mindset”
  • (11/12) Graeme Downie MP wrote a piece for The House about how dismantling submarines would ‘create well-paid, secure jobs in Scotland’
