MarRI-UK Maritime Round Up #131

Welcome to the MarRI-UK weekly roundup!

Last week, UK maritime activity was dominated by defence, infrastructure and maritime resilience. The UK Government committed £8.4 billion to the next phase of the Dreadnought-class submarine programme, while BAE Systems secured a £5.9 billion submarine contract, reinforcing the UK’s long-term naval capability. Container throughput rose by 10%, driven by expansion at London Gateway, signalling continued growth in UK trade. The Royal Navy advanced autonomous underwater warfare trials with AUKUS partners, highlighting increased investment in uncrewed maritime technologies. Globally, geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Black Sea continued to disrupt shipping, elevating security risks, insurance costs and uncertainty across international maritime trade.
