MarRI-UK is not just an organisation, but a network of many different industrial organisations, universities and not-for-profit institutions. Here are a few highlights from our members over the last three months. University of Strathclyde Demonstration (Hydrogen Highway) ![]() As part of MarRI-UK’s Hydrogen Highway project, the University of Strathclyde successfully completed a test demonstration of automous containerised hydrogen transport on the 20th of March 2024. The demonstration showcased the feasibility of using hydrogen-fuelled container ships to transport containerised hydrogen between offshore platforms and ports. To find out more about the project, click here. Oasis Marine (Oasis Spar Buoy) ![]() “Oasis Marine have just commenced tank testing of the Oasis Spar Buoy at the Kelvin Hydrodynamics Laboratory in partnership with O.S. Energy and Strathclyde University. This is to verify the seaworthiness of the buoy and further optimise the mooring design in varying sea states at scale before a full size prototype is fabricated. Analysis is being conducted both for the buoy independently and when buoy is coupled to a vessel. The Oasis Spar Buoy is designed for either electric power transfer or bunkering of other green alternative fuels such as hydrogen to medium sized vessels such as SOV’s and O.S. Energy’s Newbuild Specialised Offshore Subsea Service vessel which is the model used for the testing. This is part of a project titled Tank Testing of Hydrogen Offshore Transfer System (TestHOTS) and is funded by the Scottish Government Emerging Energy Technologies Fund. Numerical modelling has already been conducted to optimise the mooring design. The original Oasis Power Buoy design was funded through MarRI-UK.” |
