MarRI-UK is excited to announce its participation in the Horizon CSA project, Maritime Low Emission Network (MarLEN), as part of a prestigious consortium of 16 European ministries and funding organisations.
The MarLEN project, led by Forschungszentrum JÜLICH, has secured total funding of €1.5 million from the EU and brings together partners from 10 European countries. This consortium represents key players in maritime technologies, collectively accounting for a substantial portion of global shipbuilding output and fleet tonnage.
Supporting Zero-Emission Goals
MarLEN aligns closely with the goals of the Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) partnership, which aims to develop and demonstrate zero-emission solutions for all main ship types and services by 2030.
Key objectives of MarLEN:
- Strengthen the European Research Area in waterborne research by launching new transnational activities.
- Foster collaboration and synergies between national and regional maritime research programs.
- Support transnational cooperation and knowledge exchange to address climate and environmental challenges in the maritime sector.
- Increase the impacts arising from the ZEWT partnership towards the achievement of zero emission waterborne transport in Europe
- Establish a self-sustaining network.
Why MarLEN matters
The maritime sector faces urgent climate and environmental challenges, and projects like MarLEN are crucial for accelerating the transition to sustainable, zero-emission technologies. By enhancing transnational cooperation and consolidating efforts across Europe, MarLEN will contribute to shaping a cleaner, more innovative future for the maritime industry.
Three UK partners are contributing to this important initiative: Innovate UK (IUK), MSE International, and MarRI-UK. MarRI-UK is proud to play a key role by leading the Project Monitoring work package and supporting the overarching goals of the project.
